Response to the Blog, received through email..

We have been receiving bunch of wishes and greetings through email. We thought it would be appropriate, if we publish it in the blog, just to acknowledge the wide support the student community receives from other bloggers, teachers and activists.

Congratulations! It's a good sign of using ICT among the academicians to politically enlighten the students. Along with this I guess you guys can strengthen the digital linkage to bridge the communities divided in terms of caste and related discrimination and oppression.  I am sure my support will be there if there is any need for Open-Ed writings about the national and international issues.

With Best Compliments,

I have gone through the blog.  It is fine and good initiative.  I have my own observations about media.
normally daily thanthi will play soft and will not take side.  dinamalar takes some aggressive stand against govt.  and slightly inclined towards AIADMK.  Dinamani is totally against the DMK.  Dinakaran is totally a DMK paper.  Makkal Kural is totally ADMK paper.  News Today, which was once anti dmk, now turns pro dmk, due to change of ownership.

Same way, TV channels also have one or other leaning.  In such circumstances, we cannot expect those media to be neutral.  I found some of your posts in the blog, blaming the media for not being neutral.  Definitely, it will not be so.

Without waiting for the campaign to start, i can predict or visualise the stand to be taken by all the media in tamilnadu.  Not withstanding this, the initiative is good.

I am copying to dr sudarshan of IIT.   He can also comment on this.  Pondy Univ students may also help National Election Watch to compile the data, after the candidates file their nominations.  Prof. Arulselvan can nominate few of the students to help National Election Watch.  All the Fomrer Election Commissioners and the present Chief Eleciton Commissioner is supporting the National Election Watch.

over to Dr Sudarshan

Dear Mr. Srinivasan,

Thank you very much. Already, there is a Pondicherry Election Watch chapter and Mr. Joseph Victor who runs an organization called HOPE in Pondicherry is the Coordinator. He will need a lot of help from Mr. Arulselvan and his volunteers. Kindly check www.myneta.info for information about the election watch. Also www.adrindia.org will give you a broader picture about what is being done on electoral and political reforms.

Regards,

Sudarsan

This is a great opportunity for the media students to get connected with the civil society and people who are doing committed service to protect the democracy.  More than what they learn int he class room, such live experiences, under the guidance of eminent professionals will help them to shape their career.

National Election Watch has undertaken a great task of creating awareness for a free and fair poll.  Many eminent people are associated with this.  Media students also get an opportunity to closely work  with them under their guidance.

Together, we need to 'celebrate democracy'.

Dear Friends,

I visited the blog; the media watch work is being carried out systematically. The efforts of the Students and Professors are to be appreciated.

Here, apart from the competitions held for the College Students on சீரிய தேர்தல்; சிறப்பான ஆட்சி and Role of Youth in Strengthening Democracy; we have approached the Election Department to give a talk on `Role of Civil Society in ensuring Free and Fair Elections' and also train us as Micro Observers / Citizen Observers, so that Civil Society Representatives can be observers in atleast 20 to 25 booths during Election. The Department is busy due to the visit of Dr. Quraishi,  CEC next week to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. (as of now, the possibility of Citizen Observers looks weak; let's see).

Next week, there are series of People's Manifesto releases such as Citizen's Manifesto, Green Manifesto, Manifesto for Children, etc.

We really need the support of social conscious educated youth. Can I contact Prof. Arulselvan to explore the possibilities?

With regards,
Victor
