Text of the above story :
PC'S SON TRIES TO WIN OVER RIVALS, VOTERS
Home minister P. Chidambaram looks happier these past couple of days, despite the `harrowing' time he had with the DMK negotiators at the seat-sharing talks that ended only Monday. The large Congress list of 63 is said to have 16 of his loyalists; there were just three in the last Assembly.
While much of the credit for this huge `growth' in the PC camp in the faction-ridden Tamil Nadu Congress must go to the minister himself, the long toil of his ambitious son Karti to build up his support base deserves no less appreciation. His detractors within the party openly accuse the businessman/sports official/ politician of using his political clout and money power to woo the members of `rival' Congress factions, but the truth remains that Karti is a hardworking young man. This was clearly demonstrated in the outcome of the Tamil Nadu youth congress elections and the more recently held NSUI poll in which the PC group bagged 15 districts while the dominant camp captained by Union minister G.K. Vasan won eight. "Karti has dug deep into this Dravidian political turf and can now match the tricks of the DMK and the AIADMK in organising crowds for campaign rallies and challenge the skills of these kazhagams in getting the Congress supporters to the poll booths. He has proved his organisational skills. He can speak extempore in both English and Tamil depending on his audience," says Karate R. Thiagarajan, former Chennai deputy mayor and PC loyalist. Another Congress senior recalled that Mr Chidambaram would campaign only within his Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency and rarely pushed himself during the era of his political guru the late Moopanar. "But now Karti is all over the state addressing meetings and visiting houses of party members, in veshti if in the rural side and trim pants in the cities. He is the only Congress leader who will immediately respond to an SMS," says Viswanathan, Congress MP.

Our Comment on the above story :

The story seems to have been written very tactically to help the political career of Karti just ahead of Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The writer tries to prove the accusations of Karti’s detractors wrong and gives a clear verdict in favour of Karti stating “His detractors within the party openly accuse the businessman/sports official/ politician of using his political clout and money power to woo the members of `rival' Congress factions, but the truth remains that Karti is a hardworking young man”. The journalist to support his judgment in the news report mentions the outcome of recent TN youth congress and NSUI elections and comments of some Congress leaders in favour of Karti (quotes of various Congress leaders used).
